The Toe Drain Extension Project focuses on the construction of a Float Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and the associated infrastructure necessary for effective water management. This project involves the loading and transportation of materials, adhering to SABS standards for structural concrete and earthworks.

Key Components of the Toe Drain Extension Project:

  • Construction of Solution Trenches:
The project includes the construction of solution trenches, which are vital for transporting water to the Return Water Dam (RWD). These trenches play a crucial role in managing water flow and maintaining the integrity of the TSF.
  • Installation of Toe Drains:
A toe drain will be installed near the downstream toe of the dam or levee to intercept and manage seepage effectively. This subdrain is essential for preventing water accumulation and ensuring the stability of the infrastructure.
  • Compliance with Standards:
All work will be conducted in accordance with SABS 0120-2 G for structural concrete, SABS 1200 D for earthworks, and SABS 0120-2 DB for earthworks related to pipe trenches, ensuring high-quality and safe construction practices.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Commitment:
Throughout the project, IOB is committed to fully complying with Kibali Gold Mine’s Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements. We prioritize minimizing the environmental impact of our operations, ensuring sustainability and protection of the surrounding ecosystem.

Through the successful execution of the Toe Drain Extension Project, we aim to enhance the efficiency of the Float Tailings Storage Facility while maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship.
